In 2009, Sri Gopala Baba decided that he needed a larger place for His spiritual centre, as the present one, which was Sri Sai Mandiram in Bengaluru was not spacious enough for the organisation’s growth. He needed a bigger place for His Samadhi Sthala as the present location would not be suitable. Hence he started scouting for a few acres of land around various locations on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Every month and thereafter every week, along with several devotees, the search continued.
After a fair amount of searching, one fine day on January 01, 2011, the search ended. The owners of the land met Baba and informed him that the previous week they had prayed to their family Goddess for quick sale of this property. Their prayers were answered. The day prior to Gopala Baba’s visit, a few elephants had visited the land and had eaten the Bananas that were being grown in the land. Elephants were hardly seen in these areas for years together, Lord Ganesha had given his blessings. A few months later the registration process was completed. The temple designs were done and the Construction began in 2012 and completed in 2015.
The Ashram was named by Sri Gopala Baba as ‘Sri Soma Sai Skanda Ashram’. The Ashram was inaugurated on November 24th, 2015 a day after Bhagwan Sathya Sai’s birth anniversary, by the Honourable Governor of Karnataka, His Excellency Sri Vajubhai Vala, amidst Vedic rituals, attendance of hundreds of devotees from all over the country and the world, and the many hundreds of people from all the nearby villages. Destiny had chosen its place.
In the Ashram, Swamy spent his last years performing poojas, celebrating Guru Purnima, conducting Bhagawan Sathya Sai’s birth anniversary celebrations, besides performing Ganesh Chaturthi and Mahasivarathri poojas. Hundreds of His devotees from all over the country and the world used to visit the Ashram on these occasions and obtain his grace. A great festive atmosphere prevailed during these occasions which also saw people from nearby villages in attendance, with Prasadam being distributed to everyone. Divine Grace was everywhere.
Many a time, Swamy had informed His devotees that the time to leave His body was coming nearer. One day in June, the time had come. His last act of service was laying the foundation stone for the Bhagawan Sathya Sai Free clinic in the Ashram campus on June 05, 2020. He went into Maha Samadhi on 11 June , 2020. He had merged with Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai.
