Sri Soma Sai Skanda Ashram, founded by Sri Sri Sri Prabhuddananda Saraswati Maharaj (Sri Sri Sri Gopala Krishna Swamy) was dedicated to the World (Lokarpana) by the Honourable Governor of Karnataka Sri Vajubhai Vala on November 24th, 2015.
Sri Gopala Krishna Swamy developed this Ashram with a Vision – It should become a Center for ‘Adhyatmic’ (Spiritual) Excellence by pursuing the following goals:
At the epicentre of the Ashram is the Mandir or Temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh, Goddess Kamakshi, Lord Chandramouleeswara, Sri Shirdi Sai Baba, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai, Sri Sai Samarth and Sri Prabhuddananda Saraswati Maharaj's Samadhi. A few away from the entrance to the temple, is the Dhwajasthamba or Flagstaff and the idol of Sri Nandikeswara gazing into the temple towards Lord Shiva.
There is also an idol of Lord Dattatreya, opposite to the main temple. A Kalyani (water tank) is also located opposite to the temple, next to the idol of Lord Dattatreya, in the North East corner of the Ashram, which has idols of Lord Hanuman and Mother Ganga. Every year on 24th November, Avdrutha Snanam (Trishoola Snanam) in the morning and Ganga Aarathi in the evening will be performed at the Kalyani. Swamy installed a statue of Skanda or Subramanya in the form of Lord Dhandayudhapani. This is a replica of Palani Muruga, in the form of Vairagya Moorthi. After Puttaparthi, Palani was the place most often visited by Swamy.
The Samadhi site of Swamy’s parents is situated next to the main Temple. Swamy gave ‘Sanyasasrama’ to His mother and she left her body on 21st March 2016. Swamy, who had kept His father's Asthi (Ashes) in storage ,placed the same in His mother’s Samadhi Sthal (place). Swamy’s mother’s Aaradhana day is observed every year and pooja is performed to the Samadhi Sthal.
Next to Lord Dattatreya Idol, two holy trees were planted – “Avadumbra Mara” (Cluster Fig Tree) from Ganaga Pura (A Temple of Lord Dattatreya is located here) and “Allada Mara” (Banyan Tree) from Akkalkota (Samadhi place of Sai Samarth or Akkalkot Maharaj).
The campus also houses the abode of Sri Gopala Krishna Swamy besides a Yaga Shala where Homas (Yagnas or Havans) are performed by learned pundits several times a year. The campus has living quarters for volunteers who are providing service by performing poojas at the Temple and looking after administrative matters of the Ashram. The campus is spread over 3 acres with tall coconut trees along with several selected trees and plants that add to the green canopy of the Ashram. Amenities like drinking water, toilets, parking area and stone benches are provided for the convenience of the devotees.
The Ashram is managed by the Sri Soma Sai Skanda Ashram Trust consisting of eminent people dedicated to the ideals of Sri Gopala Krishna Swamy. It is envisaged that the Ashram will become a place where Great Spiritual Energies will congregate for the Enlightenment of Mankind. We invite all to visit and participate in the activities of the Ashram and obtain the blessings of the Divine.
